Hong Zhang, Wuping Lu, Fan Wu, Chao Wang, Bo Zhang, Yixian Tang Center for Earth Observation and Digital Earth, CAS, No. 9 Dengzhuangnan Road, Haidian District, Beijing, 100094, China Email: [email protected] ABSTRACT It is necessary to calibrate SAR data in order to use the data for science applications. When both polarimetric and interferometric data are collected simultaneously, these SAR data can be used for cross-calibration and verification. In this paper, we propose an improved algorithm to estimate the parameters stable and accurately based on the Ainsworth and the Quegan algorithms. Since there is no approximate in the process of the parameters estimation, this algorithm can accurately solve all parameters, even if the crosstalk is high. To verify the effect of proposed calibration algorithm, this paper analyzes the accuracy of proposed algorithm with Chinese airborne X-band PolinSAR data. The results confirm the proposed algorithm can solve all parameters more stable and accurately.

Polarimetric and Interferometric SAR Calibration Verification Methods

It is necessary to calibrate SAR data in order to use the data for science applications. When both polarimetric and interferometric data are collected simultaneously, these SAR data can be used for cross-calibration and verification. The frequency of polarimetric and interferometric data does not have to be the same for this purpose. For example, the NASA/JPL AIRSAR system can acquire C-band in...

A Modified Method for Polarimetric Sar Calibration Algorithm

Present fully polarimetric synthetic aperture radar (SAR) systems often update calibration techniques to further enhance the accuracy to the polarimetric data. In this paper, we propose a modified method to estimate the value of crosstalk based on the corrected observed value. Since Ainsworth calibration algorithm firstly set the value of k to be one. And the value of k relates to the copolariz...

Analysis of Built-Up Areas from Polarimetric Interferometric SAR Images

This paper describes the analysis of built-up areas using fully polarimetric interferometric SAR data at L-band. This approach uses a polarimetric interferometric segmentation to determine the number of dominant scattering mechanisms required by an interferometric phase estimation using ESPRIT method.

Calibration of polarimetric SAR data subject to Faraday rotation using a Genetic algorithm

Recently, some spaceborne polarimetric synthetic aperture radars, such as TerraSAR X (Xband), RADARSAR-2 (C-band) and PALSAR (L-band), are available to measure a scattering matrix of terrain and polarimetric data analysis techniques are being developed for terrain classification, forest biomass and soil moisture estimations, etc. Thus polarimetric calibration is necessary to obtain the accurate...

Polarimetric Calibration for a Ground-Based Radar, and Comparison of the Polarimetric Parameters with Air-Borne SAR Obtained from a Forest

A polarimetric ground-based radar (GB-radar) system operated in the L-band has been developed. The frequency range of GB-radar is 1.215 to 1.3 GHz, which is the same as that of Japanese satellite-borne SAR, PALSAR-2 (Phased Array type L-band Synthetic Aperture Radar), and Japanese L-band air-borne radar, i.e., Pi-SAR-L2 (Polarimetric and Interferometric Airborne Synthetic Aperture Radar L2). Po...
